5 Styling Tips for Planning an Autumn Wedding

There's something about the air cooling down and the change in seasons that make autumn weddings so special!

If you've been thinking about tying the knot over autumn but you've been unsure about whether it'll still look good - it won't be as bright and sunny as summer - then fear not! We've got your back covered.

Sharing our best tips and tricks to leverage the spectacular season that is autumn, from incorporating the moody seasonal colours to selecting the perfect in-season florals, your wedding will definitely reflect this magical season!

Leverage the seasonal tones

Autumn brings a variety of gorgeous tones! It's no wonder autumn is a popular wedding season. Use tones like burnt oranges, gradients of green to orange and red, beautiful bold blooms, dark reds for the perfect autumn reflection.

Incorporate them into your wedding decor, like signage florals and centrepieces. Unsure about what flowers are in season over autumn? We put the spotlight on five of our favourite autumn choices to use in bouquets!

Find a natural venue

Find a venue with beautiful natural scenery, making for beautiful location shoots and doubling as backdrop decor! You can further save costs on styling and decor this way too.

If in Sydney, try venues such as The Residences at Centennial Park, Milton Park Country House in Bowral, or Elkington Park in Balmain. We especially loved this gorgeous wedding that took place at The SuperIntendent's Residences!

Add a velvet touch

Bring an autumnal element into your wedding by adding a touch of velvet. Add it to wedding decorations, like reception decor and ribbons on bouquets.

If you're anything like me and love the little details, try velvet wedding shoes or a velvet tie for the groom! These are the type of shoes I've picked out for my own wedding!

Plan your photography around the sunset

Factor in the weaker sunset for some amazing photos. As the sun is weaker in autumn than the sunnier months of the year, this is BEST for soft and incredibly beautiful sunset photos.

The light is PERFECT this time of the year, so make sure that you work with your photographer to find the ideal time for your wedding photos.

Take advantage of moody autumn textures

Ramp up the texture with autumn foliages! Autumn is the best season for beautiful foliage, like leaves and branches. The colour on the leaves of deciduous trees will start to turn, particularly if there's been a cold snap, and those deep red leafy tones will be revealed! Try adding it to your reception decor, cake decoration, and centrepieces.
